WHAT IT IS

What is Community Youth Choir?

With a focus on indie, alternative, and less traditional vocal music, Community Youth Choir approaches group singing from a different angle. Singers will work across genres and styles while building skills that also translate to more traditional choral music. We center confidence, playfulness, listening, and community, making music that feels good and sounds good.
Community Youth Choir has a DIY spirit. We believe everyone’s voice is valuable and worth being heard. The program is youth-driven, welcoming, and open to singers with all levels of experience.
WHO IT IS FOR

you can relax or work in our lounge, where we have free WiFi, air conditioning in the summer, heat in the
winter, bathrooms, and snacks and drinks available for purchase.

F.A.Q.

Do I have to sign up for the whole summer?

No. Rehearsals can be paid for individually on a weekly basis, even at the door. It is no problem to skip a week when you are not available, or to try out a few rehearsals and then decide it is not for you.
That said, choirs and communities work best when people show up consistently. Returning each week gives singers a chance to learn their music, own their performances, and grow from individual singers into an interconnected choir.
To participate in the quarterly performance, singers need to have attended at least 2 rehearsals within the month before the performance.
For singers who want to commit, we offer a monthly price that includes all 4 rehearsals at a discounted rate.

What if I cannot afford it?

Community Youth Choir does not turn anyone away for lack of funds. If the listed price does not work for your family, choose the Pay What You Can option or email christopher@theglowhall.com. We will work with you privately and respectfully to find a rate that makes participation possible.

Can Parents Stay?

Community Youth Choir is designed as a drop-off program, so the general expectation is that singers will participate independently while parents and guardians go about their day.
That said, parents and guardians are very welcome to stay if they would like. You can watch rehearsal, or you can relax or work in our lounge, where we have free WiFi, air conditioning in the summer, heat in the
winter, bathrooms, and snacks and drinks available for purchase.

What else do I need to know?

Community Youth Choir is a supervised youth music program through Glow Hall’s School of Sound & Vision.
It is not a general child care program, daycare, or accredited school. Rehearsal time is focused on group singing, music-making, listening, and related creative activities.
All singers must have a completed registration form before participating. A parent or guardian must provide emergency contact information, allergy or medical information, authorized pickup information, and
permission forms.
Singers must be picked up by 4:15 PM unless another arrangement has been made in advance. Singers may not leave rehearsal early or leave the building on their own unless that permission has been clearly provided by a parent or guardian.
Singers are welcome to bring water, drinks, and snacks to rehearsal. Glow Hall also has free water bottles available, and snacks and drinks available for purchase during breaks. Most items are $3 to $5 and can be paid for with cash or Venmo.  We ask all singers to help make Community Youth Choir a kind, respectful, and supportive space. Singing can feel vulnerable. The goal is to build confidence, listen generously, and make something together.
